INTRODUCTION
Watch YouTube video Super Chameleon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMT1FLzEn9I
to get the students excited about the activity
_______________________________________________________
DEVELOPMENT
Read the Blue Chameleon book on IWB to refresh students memory
After you have read the book have a quick discussion:
- What happened in the book?
- What is the Chameleon trying to be here?
- How has the artist made the Chameleon look like a rock/snail/cockatoo…?
Introduce students to their activity by showing them the picture cards. Do a brief modelling of activity by picking a picture card (eg. A green apple) and asking the students:
- How could I draw a Chameleon to look like a green apple?
- What shape would the Chameleon be in? (circle)
- What colour would the Chameleon be? (green)
_______________________________________________________
CONSOLIDATION AND PRACTICE
Students are each given a picture card and instructed to draw a Chameleon on white paper. The Chameleon is to fill up the whole page.
Once students have done this they can then write how they made their Chameleon look like their picture card
_______________________________________________________
CLOSURE
Get the students to come together and take brief turns showing each other the drawings they have done. If there is time get a few to explain how they made their Chameleon look like their picture card.
