- Students use arts language to describe and discuss the communication of ideas, feelings and purpose in their other people’s arts works
_____________________________________________________
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
This is the first lesson on the topic Colourful Chameleons. Students are very familiar with the VTS discussions I will be using in this lesson, however they have not read this book/seen the images in class before. Students may have little or no knowledge of Chameleons. The students are used to using simple art language when discussing artworks

MATERIALS
· The Blue Chameleon picture book by Emily Gravett
converted into a slide show for the interactive white board
· Interactive white board
· Blue Chameleon Worksheet (see bottom of page)
_______________________________________________________
INTRODUCTION
Before reading the book (using the IWB, so students can see images clearly) have a quick discussion about the front cover to introduce students to the subject matter- Chameleons. Ask students whether they know about what a Chameleon is and if they know anything about Chameleons
_______________________________________________________
DEVELOPMENT
Read the book to the students using VTS questions to get them to notice the colours and shapes they have used for the Chameleon to mimic the different items
- What's going on in this picture?
- What do you see that makes you say that?
- What more can we find?
_______________________________________________________
CONSOLIDATION AND PRACTICE
After reading the book students will have to fill in a worksheet listing/explaining how the artist has made the Chameleon look like a banana/cockatoo/snail…etc.
_______________________________________________________
CLOSURE
For the closure of the lesson I will get a few students (of different abilities) to show and share their ideas in the thinking circle and facilitate discussion of different students ideas.
** this show and share will happen in most of the lessons- it is important that in each lesson you choose different students that have different abilities and different techniques so students don't think that there is just ONE right way to do it.
